๐ก๏ธ Be a Cyber Hero!
The internet is awesome โ but it can also be dangerous if you're not careful. Let's learn how to stay safe online like a pro! ๐ช
What is Phishing?
Imagine getting a text from "your school" saying your account will be deleted unless you click a link RIGHT NOW. Sounds scary, right? That's exactly what phishers want you to feel! Phishing is when bad guys pretend to be someone you trust โ like your school, a game you play, or even a friend โ to trick you into giving away your password or personal info.
๐ง How to Spot & Stop Phishing
-
Look at the email address closely. Scammers use sneaky addresses like
support@paypa1.comโ notice the "1" instead of "l"! - Don't click links in strange messages. When in doubt, go directly to the website yourself by typing the address.
- If it makes you panic, pause! Phishers use scary words like "URGENT!" or "Act now!" to make you click without thinking.
- Real companies never ask for your password. If someone does โ it's a scam, full stop!
- Tell a trusted adult. If something feels weird online, always show a parent, guardian, or teacher.
What is Malware?
Think of malware like a computer cold ๐คง โ it sneaks into your device and makes everything go wrong. Some malware deletes your files, some slows your computer to a crawl, and some (called ransomware ๐) actually locks you out and demands money! It usually hides inside downloads, game cheats, or shady websites.
๐ง How to Stay Safe from Malware
- Always update your apps and device. Updates fix the cracks that malware sneaks through โ like patching holes in a wall!
- Only download from trusted places. Get apps from official app stores like Google Play or the App Store โ not random websites.
- Use antivirus software. Think of it as your computer's immune system โ it finds and removes bad stuff before it causes damage.
- Save important files in a safe place. Back up your schoolwork and photos so you don't lose them if something goes wrong.
- Never plug in a USB you found. Unknown USB drives can infect your computer the second you plug them in!
What is Spyware?
Spyware is like a spy hiding inside your device ๐ต๏ธ โ it secretly watches everything you do without you knowing. It can see what you type, which websites you visit, and even try to steal your passwords. Spyware often hides inside apps that seem totally normal, like a free game or a fun filter app.
๐ง How to Protect Yourself from Spyware
- Check what apps are allowed to do. Before installing anything, look at its permissions. A game should NOT need your location or contacts!
- Be picky with browser add-ons. Only install browser extensions that are well-known and have lots of good reviews.
- Be careful on public Wi-Fi. Free Wi-Fi at cafes or malls can be risky โ spyware can snoop on your data. Ask a parent about using a VPN.
- Delete apps you don't use. Old apps can still collect your data even when you're not using them โ so ditch the ones you don't need!
- Cover your camera when not in use. A simple sticker can stop spyware from secretly recording you.

Make Strong Passwords
Use at least 12 characters and mix in numbers and symbols. Never use your name or birthday โ those are too easy to guess!
Use Two-Step Login
Two-factor authentication (2FA) means even if someone gets your password, they still can't get in. It's like having two locks on your door!
Browse Safely
Look for the ๐ padlock in your browser. If a website doesn't have it, don't enter any personal information!
Tell a Trusted Adult
